January 27, 2026

The Colonial Beach Volunteer Fire Department (Company 1) responded to a reported structure fire in the 100 block of 8th Street, engine 1 arrived on scene to find a single-story residential home with fire visible from the rear of the structure. All occupants had safely evacuated prior to the department’s arrival and were unharmed.

Engine 1’s crew immediately deployed a hose line and initiated an aggressive interior fire attack. Truck 1 also responded and assisted with ventilation and overhaul operations, helping to open up the structure so crews could effectively locate and extinguish hidden fire.

Additional support was provided by mutual aid partners from Oak Grove, Naval District Washington Company 28, King George, and Montross. Their assistance ensured adequate manpower and resources to bring the incident under control quickly and safely.

Thanks to the coordinated efforts and professionalism of all responding personnel, the fire was contained and prevented from spreading to neighboring properties.

“Incidents like this highlight the importance of teamwork and training,” a department spokesperson said. “We’re grateful everyone made it out safely and proud of the dedication our volunteers show every day.”

The Colonial Beach Volunteer Fire Department remains committed to protecting the citizens of Colonial Beach and appreciates the continued support of the community.

As a reminder, residents are encouraged to check smoke alarms monthly and replace batteries at least once a year. Working smoke alarms provide early warning and can make all the difference in a fire emergency.
