Mission statement

The Colonial Beach Vol. Fire Department is located is Westmoreland County, Virginia. We are a completely volunteer station with the exclusion of one paid employee that works 5 days a week. We run approximately 600 calls a year with 30 active firefighters. Our goal is to protect the citizens and property of Colonial Beach and Westmoreland County through suppression, prevention, and education.


CBVFD Annual Firemans Parade is Almost Here

The annual firemans parade will start promptly at 7:30 pm  on Friday, June 12th. Judging starts at 4, ends at 6. No deadline on registration, sign up that day. Awards are given out on town hill following the beauty pagent. We look forward to another great parade and  want to see who can make the most noise!!


 
Camper Explodes

While in King George County on a house fire the CBVFD was dispatched for an explosion at Monroe Bay Campground, Brush 1 responded from the station and Tanker 1 quickly cleaned up and responded from Ridge rd. Brush 1 marked on the scene with no fire showing however the camper had been destroyed. Thankfully no one was seriously injured however there was one patient taken to the hospital as a precaution.


 
   
   
Structure Fire in King George

On the afternoon of May 4th the CBVFD was dispatched for a working house fire on Ridge road just past the Westmoreland and King George County line. Tanker 1 responded with 5 personnel. Once on the scene Tanker 1's crew knocked the fire in the basement and assisted with ventilation and overhaul. Tanker 1 was placed in service by Chief Moody so they could respond back to Westmoreland County for another emergency call.


 
   
   
Car vs. Hydrant and Pole

16:00 hours the tones dropped for a one vehicle accident,  possible injuries, involving a light pole at the intersection of  Euclid Ave and Sixth St..  E-15 and U-1 marked on scene at 16:05  and found one vehicle that had hit a fire hydrant and then came to a stop against a telephone pole. The driver was out of the vehicle but injured and was transported to MWH. Thanks to public works for getting the water shut down quickly before the pole gave way.

On Saturday May 2ND the membership of the CBVFD gathered at the firehouse to say thank you to some very important people for their assistance with their newest apparatus TRUCK 1. Plaques were given to The Town of Colonial Beach (Mayor Fred Rummage), The CBVFD Ladies Aux (Lori Garrison), and for his time and effort David Robey. Again the Colonial Beach Vol. Fire Department thank all of these individuals and organizations for their support of TRUCK 1


 
   
   
500 Lincoln Working Fire

07:20 on Friday, January 23rd the CBVFD was alarmed for a working house fire at 500 Lincoln Ave. E-15 responded at 07:25 with 4 personnel and arrived on scene minutes later with heavy smoke showing on all four sides of a single story, single family dwelling. Water supply was easily established with hydrants 100 ft and 300 ft too each side of the residence. 15's crew made an interior attack and were quickly backed up by E-14's crew of 4 and Chief 1A establishing command. The fire was marked under control at 07:42. Thanks to Truck 28, Engine 4, Engine 21 and KG Tanker 2 for help with salvage, overhaul, and clean-up. Units marked in service at 11:00.


 
   
   
Get Alarmed Virginia/Smoke Detectors
   
Smoke Detectors

The Colonial Beach Vol. Fire Department recently recieved  a state grant to fund the distribution and installation(as needed) of battery operated smoke detectors to those who cannot afford or install their own alarms

The "Get Alarmed Virginia" grant program allows the fire department to provide those in need with detectors at NO COST to the public. We will inspect any current detectors and provide/install new ones as needed.

If you need your detector checked and or a detector installed, please do not hesitate to stop by the fire department on Colonial Ave. or contact us by phone to schedule a follow up check of your residence.

Additionally, fire department members will be visiting various multi-unit and isolated residences throughout the year to check detectors and further provide as necessary.

Company 1 Dumps 21 volunteers on 2nd first due fire in a week.

At 02:36 Westmoreland dispatch alerted Company 1, 4, and Rescue Station 1 for a residential structure fire. Eng 14, 15, Tanker 1 and utility 1 quickly jumped out with a total of 21 volunteers.  Chief 1b arrived on scene around the same time as units were marking up.  Chief 1b established Bancroft Ave command and advised he had a single story structure with heavy fire and smoke showing from several windows and a door on the charlie side. Chief 1b confirmed the structure had been evacuated and gave instructions to Eng 14 who was approaching the scene. Eng 14 laid a line from the hydrant Lt 1 did a walk around of the structure as 14's crew advanced an 1 3/4 line to side C. An aggressive interior attack was made, Eng 15, tanker 1, utility 1, and NSWC Truck 28 assisted with fire attack, ventilation, and throwing ground ladders. The fire was marked under control at 02:55. All units cleared by 05:03. Thanks to Co 4, King George Co1 and NSWC Truck 28 for Mutual Aid.

Eng14, Eng 15, Tanker 1, U-1 First due house fire

On November 14, 2008 at 19:41 Eng Co 1, Eng Co 4, Rescue Station 1 was dispatched to 314 Locust Ave for a structure fire. Eng 14 arrived on scene at 19:48 with heavy fire and smoke showing from the second floor on side C of the structure. Eng 14 laid a line from the hydrant at the corner of Rt 205 and Locust Ave which Eng 15 picked up seconds later. Captain 1 completed a walk around of the structure and established command. Eng 14's crew advanced an 1 3/4 line for an aggressive interior attack. Eng 15's crew assisted Eng 14's crew as well as throwing ladders to the second floor and ventilating the structure. Captain 1 passed command to Chief 1B and took operations. The fire was marked under control at 20:00. All units cleared the scene by 21:34. Thanks to Co 4 for assisting in salvage and over haul.

The Officers and Membership of the Colonial Beach Vol. Fire Department Inc., would like to offer their condolences and deepest sympathies to the Oak Grove Vol. Fire Department  for the passing of their Fire Chief, Ira Edward Marks Jr.(1956-2008)

First Due Cut Job

Tones dropped at 14:41 for a one vehicle accident with entrapments on Ridge Rd. Engine 15 and Utility 1 jumped out quick with 10 personnel. Engine 15 marked on scene at 14:49 with one vehicle off the road on its side, lines down and two entrapments. Chief 1 established command, Lt 1 with operations, both patients were out at 14:55. One patient flown out by Aircare the other transported by ground. Units marked in service at 16:40. Job well done by everyone.


 
   
   
One of Our Own Deployed to Iraq

Firefighter Melissa Callaway is currently serving her first tour of duty
in Iraq with the United States Air Force. Please keep her in your
thoughts and prayers so that she may come home to Colonial Beach and

Engine 14 Wins at Montross Fall Festival

On Satruday, October 4th, members of the CBVFD  and Engine 14 won best appearing pumper and best appearing overall fire department at the Montross Fall Festival Parade. This parade will more than likely be the last parade Engine 14 will attend and we were all proud of the good showing.


 
   
   
09 Pierce Velocity on Order

It was decided by the members of the CBVFD on July 29th, to order a 2009 Pierce Velocity, 105' heavy duty ladder truck. A few specs on the truck, TAK-4 - Detroit Series 60 515hp - Side Roll Protection - 500 water - 2000 waterous pump - Harrison 10KW generator - Whelen LED lights. This piece of apparatus will be replacing Engine 14. Delivery expected late February to early March. (Purchased through Singer & Associates)


 
Three Alarm Fire

On the evening of August 14th CBVFD responded to a reported two story dwelling that had been struck by lightning.  Engine 14 and Tanker 1 marked on  scene shortly after Wagon 4 with heavy smoke showing from the second floor.  An interior attack was attempted with no success, all operations went to defensive and the aerial master stream was put into place. This incident quickly went to the second and third alarm recieving help from Westmoreland, Cople District, and King George Company 1 & 2. The fire was out at 00:30 and all units went in service. A special thanks to Newburg Co. 14 for the fill at our station.
